Veere

Veere was once a flourishing port town which owed its prosperity mainy to the wool trade with Scotland. Two of the houses belonged to the Scottish trading community. The Gothic town hall was erected at the end of the 15th century according to a design by the Antwerp architect Evert Spoorwater.

Veere lies on the Veerse lake, which was created when the dam was built between Walcheren and North Beveland in 1958. This dam cut Veere off from the sea, and caused the decline of the fishing industry there.
